Whether you are going “all in” with a Brazilian bikini wax or just getting your eyebrows touched up, it is important that you choose an experienced esthetician at a reputable establishment for your hair removal needs. These are some of your most delicate areas and the face you show the world everyday. Why would you trust your skin to just anyone?
Waxing is definitely our expertise. Our estheticians are highly-trained and bring years of experience to the table. Our goal is to make every client happy not only with their service, but with their experience as well. Let’s face it–when it comes to waxing, it’s the destination, not the journey! We do everything we can to make waxing as pleasant as possible!
how long do I have to let my hair grow?
You must let your hair grow in for at least 2 weeks if you have shaved in order to get a good wax. This should be about a half of an inch, but the longer the better! The more follicles/roots we can pull, the cleaner the wax, the longer it is going to last and the happier you are going to be! The “grow out” stage is often the most difficult step, but the longer the hair is, the cleaner the waxing will turn out.
does it hurt?
Does James Brown get down? It hurts more the first time than any other time because you are pulling out 100% of the hair, your nerves are on edge, and you don’t know what to expect. You will experience a quick, temporary sting that stops hurting right away. By far the worst part for most people is the anticipation, not the actual removal! Follow all the tips we give you and you will be fine. Your second time will be so much EASIER!
The pain associated with waxing is highly sensationalized and can be a barrier to some. Of course, our estheticians are sensitive to this and do everything they can to minimize your discomfort. We recommend avoiding caffeine prior to your visit, and scheduling your appointment to avoid your menstrual cycle, as both of these can make you more sensitive.
There are products on the market designed to minimize this discomfort and we carry them at The Wax Bar. Be sure to inquire about them when booking your first appointment as these products need to be applied up to an hour PRIOR to the service.
should I trim my hair?
NO! The longer the better. The longer the hair, the more the wax will adhere, the smoother your skin will become, and the longer the results will last. If your hair needs to be trimmed your esthetician will take care of it as she knows the best length for the procedure.
i am on my cycle can I still get waxed?
Yes. If you are on your cycle just wear a tampon and be prepared to be a little more sensitive than usual. Same goes for the few days before your cycle as well.
what if I am pregnant, can I still get waxed?
Yes. You may be a little more sensitive than usual, but we regularly wax mothers-to-be up to a week before their due date! In fact, scheduling a “pre-childbirth Brazilian” is becoming almost as popular as packing an overnight bag for delivery!
can medication affect waxing?
Yes! You CANNOT be waxed if you are taking any antibiotics, Accutane, Differin, or Retin A. Additionally, any medications that list “sun sensitivity” on the list of symptoms will preclude you from being waxed. You should also avoid waxing while using glycolic acid, harsh exfoliants or any facial peels.
All these products thin out and weaken your skin making you more sensitive and likely to burn or peel. You should wait 2-6 weeks depending on how long you have been on the medication before you wax, as we want to make sure the medication is out of your system so you have a pleasant waxing experience. If you are not sure of how you may react from any other prescriptions you are taking, please give us a call beforehand so we can help you determine if you are able to get waxed.
what is the normal skin reaction to waxing?
It is normal for your skin to show redness after waxing. Some skin is more sensitive than others and reactions may range from no redness at all to very red. The first time you wax an area, or if it has been a while since your last waxing, you will probably experience some redness and sensitivity afterwards. This usually subsides within a few hours, or for very sensitive skin within 24 hours.
can I tan before or after my waxing?
We recommend that you do not tan before or at least 24 hours after. Also, don’t come in with a spray tan because the wax will exfoliate your tan right off! If necessary, it is OK to spray tan after waxing once the waxed area has had a few hours to recover.
will waxing make my hair grow back thicker, darker or heavier?
No, it will not. Waxing removes the hair by the root, often weakening the root in process. Therefore, if anything, waxing may make the hair finer and sparser with repeated regular waxing.
what will I be wearing in the treatment room?
There is no need to disrobe if you are getting a brow wax or any other facial waxing done. Upper-body waxing may require the removal of your top. For bikini waxing, we provide disposable paper underwear to change into. Additionally, if you are getting a Brazilian, we provide a modesty drape prior to treatment.
when you say Brazilian what do you mean?
The industry definition varies, but for us, it’s everything from front to back! If we remove the labia hair it is a Brazilian regardless of what you leave or don’t leave on top—be it a landing strip, a triangle, or nothing.
how long does the Brazilian waxing take?
The process is usually 20 minutes, but it just depends on how much hair needs to be removed.
how long does waxing last?
Waxing may last 2 to 3 weeks. The more you do it, the longer it will last. We recommend absolutely NO SHAVING in that area between waxes. Shaving traumatizes the hair follicle and creates redness and ingrowns.
how often should I have waxing done?
We recommend anywhere from 3-6 weeks or when the hair is between 1/4 and 1/2 inch long.
are there any special instructions if I have a special occasion planned
and want to get waxed for the first time?
Yes. If you are waxing for the first time for an event or special occasion, we strongly recommend scheduling the same service 4 weeks PRIOR to make sure you have no adverse reactions on the big day!
what is the wax bar cancellation policy?
Your appointment is very important to us and we set aside time just for you. With that in mind, should you need to reschedule your appointment, please provide us with 24-hour notice. This ensures that we will be able to accommodate clients from our waiting list and that our estheticians are able to adjust their schedules accordingly.
To avoid being charged 50% you must notify the wax bar at least 24 hours in advance to your appointment. Additionally, we reserve the right to ask for pre-payment via credit card to book future appointments. Thank you for your understanding as we strive to provide the best possible service to all of our clients.
